Cast Iron Flameware

This portion of my BFA exposition was focused on the development of a novel clay-body, one that imitates cast iron in both appearance and function. The development of flameware is trying. Creating a clay body that accepts glaze can be heated to red hot with a blowtorch, and quenched in ice water without cracking was a staggering challenge. Thanks to the help of Sam Chung and Kurt Weiser, professors during my time at ASU, I finally developed a functional clay body with my desired characteristics. To compliment this surface treatment in traditional stoneware to create a set, I also developed a series of glaze combinations that mimicked the flameware, without the added cost flameware entails.
